When I am not working as a Product Manager or shuttling tweens between playdates and soccer practice, you can find me reading, grabbing a beer with friends, hitting the range, hiking, kayaking, or roller skating with my besties. In the past, you could catch me on the roller derby track as Strawberry ShortShank (Shank for short). I've called the Valley home for the last 12 years and have loved exploring every inch of State 48.<h4>How does this qualify me to represent Congressional District 01?</h4>My job is focused on bringing opposing sides together in order to get projects and goals over the finish line. This is exactly what is needed to work in Congress— the ability to reach across the aisle so legislation that helps the American people is voiced, supported, and passed. Talking about great ideas is just that, talk. We need people that not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.I'm just a mom who wants to do the right thing and help other people where I can. The struggle is real, the rent is still too damn high, but despite that, we are better together in Arizona's CD01.So let's get together and change the world.

It might start with books, but that isn't where it ends. In the United States, 54% of adults are below a 6th grade reading level. The U.S. ranks 36th overall from a global perspective.* Beyond the political and economic impacts this has on the U.S., illiteracy prevents us from having important conversations in our day to day lives (see any social media post ever). How can we turn that around? <ul><li>Investing in early childhood education</li><li>Expand access to reading materials through programs like <a href="https://reachoutandread.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Reach Out and Read</a> and <a href="https://imaginationlibrary.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dolly Parton's Imagination Library</a> so that all kids have access to books, including when parents add to their families through adoption, childbirth, or surrogacy</li><li>Invest in quality public education including educator's salaries</li><li>Expand and invest in our public libraries</li><li>Change the dialogue around reading and education— it's actually kinda cool to learn new things *<a href="https://www.thenationalliteracyinstitute.com/post/literacy-statistics-2024-2025-where-we-are-now" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">https://www.thenationalliteracyinstitute.com/post/literacy-statistics-2024-2025-where-we-are-now</a></li></ul>

Reading expands your horizons and introduces different voices. Literacy and reading comprehension are critical skills needed to bring us together as a community and to move us forward as a country.

Literacy

Forks up! I graduated from Arizona State University with a Master's in Social Justice and Human Rights in 2023. The great thing about human rights is that they apply to all humans — even those you might not like or agree with. They are universal and benefit everyone, regardless of political affiliation. Here are some rights that I am especially passionate about.<ul><li>Paid parental leave</li><li>Expanded SNAP/EBT/WIC benefits</li><li>Universal Health Care FULL STOP</li><li>The right to marry who you love</li><li>The right to make medical choices about your own body or make medical choices about your children</li><li>Affordable housing</li><li>Increased federal minimum wage/Universal Basic Income </li></ul>I am sure you're asking "how do we pay for this???" Easily. We tax the highest earners at a reasonable rate and peel back subsidies for industries that don't need it. It's not rocket science, it's just math.

I'm a mom to three amazing kids, and they mean the world to me. I want to provide them with the best future that I can. I know how hard that can be for some of us. Focusing on Human Rights is critical to providing a bright future for all of our children.

"I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally..." The above words are from President Ronald Reagan. If he can recognize the importance of amnesty and treating humans humanely, there is no reason we can't continue to do that today. What does that look like?<ul><li>Two words: <a href="https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/amdt14-S1-3/ALDE_00013743/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Due Process</a></li><li>Amnesty for those who live in the U.S. and have built a life and community here</li><li>Re-hauling of the immigration process so as to expedite the backlog of applications</li><li>Invest in infrastructure and build facilities across the border to more quickly process those coming across, and deter them from entering via other more dangerous routes. This will also include access to medical care and other basic human needs.</li><li>Use technology to build a robust database so as to prevent people from "getting lost in the system"</li></ul>

My ancestors came from all over the world. Immigrants help keep the United States economy turning. Human dignity and access to basic human rights must be afforded to all, no matter where you happen to have been born.

Mental health impacts all of us. The phrase "hurt people hurt people" isn't just a saying, it has real meaning behind it. Those who have dealt with traumatic issues will take that hurt out on the people they love, sometimes in devastating ways. Here is what I would like to see change:<ul><li>Insurance companies eliminate the red tape that makes billing and treating patients so difficult that many therapists are moving to a cash pay model</li><li>Include monthly mental health care appointments as part of preventative care, and are covered by insurance as such</li><li>Provide increased access to mental health care services in schools, not just through guidance counselors, but through education on mental health</li><li>Expand access to mental health care services for veterans</li><li>Increase educational support to those who want to go into the mental health care field</li><li>Provide comprehensive drug rehabilitation services to those in need, including the homeless and incarcerated</li></ul>

Everyone deserves access to quality mental health care services, especially our veterans, service members, and Indigenous community members. Let's work together to destigmatize getting the help you need, and provide access to everyone who wants it.
